Blood is a strange
and mysterious substance. The Bible doesn't tell us the chemical composition
of the red or white corpuscles, but it does tell us that the life
of every living creature is in its blood (Leviticus
17:11).
When God made man in His image, He breathed
His own spiritual life into him. That life was held in the substance
which we call blood. When man dies, life leaves the blood.
Before we can see how the blood of Jesus
atones for sin, we need to understand some things that are unique
about His blood. We are indebted to Dr. William Standish Reed
of the Christian Medical Foundation of Tampa, Florida for enlightenment
concerning the sinlessness of Jesus Christ, because of the fact that
all of His blood was from God!
Luke 1:31
specifically states that the conception of Jesus took place in Mary's
womb. Therefore, His was a supernatural conception. Normal
human conception doesn't take place in the womb. Rather, the
uniting of the male sperm and the female ovum take place in the fallopian
tube of the female. Neither the sperm nor the ovum have
blood in and of themselves, only the ability to create blood of the
new-life as it comes into being. Furthermore, the placenta
which forms keeps the mother's blood from passing into that of the
fetus.
Therefore, since Jesus' body was wonderfully
fashioned in Mary's womb, He was sinless: none of the Adamic blood
entered His being. Thus could Jesus, the only-begotten Son of
God, declare, "I am the LIFE"
